Remember those days?  In 1990 (when I was in Pre-K), about 1% of the US population used the internet: mainly, NASA employees and tech Ph. D’s.  At the turn of the millennium (Y2K, Gladiator got “Best Pic,” the Florida recount), about 43% of Americans used the World Wide Web (remember those AOL CD’s, a.k.a. Frisbee’s?).  As of 2012, according to Google, 8 out of every 10 Americans use the internet (excluding only nursing home residents and people without iPhones).

“Once upon a time, in a not-so-far away land, there was a business, that upon noticing the decline in the results of print media, turned to social media marketing and made a lot of money.  The End.” 

Sound like a familiar “bedtime story”?  Well, it’s not!  Take your pick: Coca-Cola, Budweiser, Toyota, Apple, GM, GE, Texas Roadhouse, Sony Pictures, Disney, Gillette, BMW, Avon, Gucci, McDonald’s, Mercedes… 

The list goes on and on.  Social media marketing kicks butt!

We live in a new age of influence.  Not too long ago, media was just newspaper, television, and radio and the only way to get your opinion out there was by writing an editorial or calling a talk show host and crossing your fingers.

Not today.

Now we have social media: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, and LinkedIn (oh, and Google+), to name a few, to tweet, tell, yell, pin, post or show anyone and everyone – anything you like!

Thanks to social media, today, everyone has a voice.
