Over 49 Million people tuned in to watch the Super Bowl 2015, and this year’s cost to buy 30 seconds of ad time was more than $4 Million. After reviewing more than 37 minutes of advertisements (some of which include extended spots from companies), there are a few lessons that we can all learn.
The Super Bowl, often seen as the pinnacle of commercials and advertising, is now less than 2 weeks away. Many marketers have already footed the $4 Million bill for NBC to air their 30-second spot, but some see that investment as just not worth it. The argument can be seen from both sides.
Facebook has announced that beginning in January it will again be slashing the amount of organic reach a business’ Facebook Page will have. The social media conglomerate says that through a survey they ran, respondents wanted to “see more stories from friends and Pages they care about, and less promotional content.” So, in response, if Facebook feels that a business’ content is “too promotional,” they won’t let many people see it.
IKEA is a brand famous for its outrageously cheap furniture, insanely huge stores, and impossible directions to follow. But, they've also made quite a name for themselves with their content marketing. Their lasted piece comes out of a store in Britain where they installed a "Motivational Mirror." Unsuspecting shoppers walked by the mirror that would flash compliments up on the screen and ultimately give them a nice surprise. Imagine that, a mirror you'd actually want to look in to! Check out the video they made about it below:
In honor of today being Halloween and all of the scary, spooky grandeur that accompanies it, I decided to put together the 7 things that are the scariest about marketing. Very few feel extremely confident in the marketing methods they’re using, and that only amplifies with content marketing because over 90% of companies are uncertain if they’re even measuring it right (according to Contently).
As we roll into fall, days get a little bit shorter and the sun starts to go down earlier and earlier. That means no more sunglasses and we might have to put on a light jacket as the day goes on. Corona now has a fix for that. They created a contraption that reflects the setting sun where it's shady so in effect it's like the sun never went down. They're calling it "Extend the Sunshine," we're calling it fabulous marketing. Check out their video on the Extra Sun Beam project and let's cross our fingers we find one out here in Armory Square some time!

As more and more eyes become glued to their smartphone screens (for better or worse), it’s time to take advantage. Check out these statistics and decide for yourself.
Check out this great 30-second spot from Fox Sports featuring Joe Buck and Troy Aikmen. The duo team up to do a "telenova" style commercial dramatizing the fact that a world without football is "not good." It's a creative angle to take to promote a football show. There's no hard hits or fast moving cuts, so it's quite refreshing!
